Chapter 1
“Found it!” Min exclaimed. Her short red hair gently swayed as she pointed at classroom 214.
“Alright, help me open the door,” said Rachel, a girl with long brown hair and black rimmed glasses. She motioned for Min to push against the rotted, creaky door.
While they worked to open it, Marcy—the youngest of the three—fixed her long black hair into a ponytail.
The three college students were working on their journalism project. They were researching the abandoned all-girls high school in the hills of Moniga. Due to financial troubles, the school was forced to close.
People then discovered that several students associated with classroom 214 had disappeared. News reporters and journalists had flocked to the school to find out why. But nothing was ever reported.
As Marcy looked around the school’s abandoned hallway, she noticed how other classroom doors weren’t nearly as worn as 214's door. The others all had their original paint. But this door was worn down to the wood.
“That's odd,” Marcy mused.
“There!” Min cheered as the door opened. A gust of cold air rushed from inside the dark room. “Come on. Let’s take these pictures and go home.”
Chapter 2
“Just a couple more pictures. Then, we can go home,” said Rachel. She snapped a few shots of the decayed desks.
“Can we stop for coffee on the way back?” Min asked distractedly. She barely looked up from taking her own photos.
“I doubt we’d make it to class on time if we did. It’s already 10 a.m.,” Rachel pointed out.
While the two girls took pictures, Marcy strolled around the room. If she ignored the bone-chilling coldness, rotting smell, and damaged desks, room 214 looked like any other classroom.
Suddenly, something shiny caught her eye. A yellow camera. Marcy grabbed it from the floor and held it up to Min and Rachel. “I think someone else was here,” she said.
Min looked over. “A camera? Oh! Take a picture of us!” she exclaimed, dragging Rachel over to her side.
Laughing at her friends' antics, Marcy turned on the camera and snapped a quick photo of the two girls. “The first thing you do after hearing someone lost their camera is demand a picture? You’ve been using Instagram too much, Min.”
Marcy showed the girls their photo. She rolled her eyes as Min complained that her hair was all messed up. Marcy started to scroll through the other pictures on the camera, but then frowned in confusion. “There are only pictures of the classroom. . . . But nobody's in them.”
Chapter 3
“Maybe someone was writing a story on the school like us,” Rachel said. She watched as Marcy continued to look through the camera.
“We should look for whoever owns it," said Min.
Marcy started to feel paranoid. She remembered how students associated with this classroom would disappear. Feeling faint and her heartbeat increasing, Marcy edged closer to Rachel to grab her attention.
“Are you okay? You don’t look too good,” Rachel said with concern in her voice.
“I just . . . I just don’t want to be here anymore,” Marcy whispered. Her eyes darted around the room quickly.
Sharing a look with Min, Rachel nodded. “It’s okay. We’ll leave now.”
Taking the hint, Min nodded and wrapped an arm around Marcy’s shoulders. “Yeah, we have enough photos. We don’t need to come back here again.”
Still silent, Marcy nodded and allowed the other two to lead her to the door. Slowly, they made their way out of the dimly lit school. As the old building loomed behind them and they stepped into the bright sunlight, they began to feel a sense of calm.
